The Other Story Project was launched in September 2015 when Fatima Al-Banawi began collecting stories from people. Throughout the years, the project collected anonymous, handwritten, A4-page-long real life stories on the spot and directly from people who are locals of Jeddah City, or who happen to be visiting it for work, family, or leisure. The story writers are people who share the world with us; they come from different social classes, occupations, locations, and ages, they are fighters, coffee lovers, divorcees, and travelers, and are hopeful, inspirational, and adventurous.

The project has collected almost 5000 real life stories from strangers and packaged many into art productions that traveled from the first touring Biennale in the world, inaugurated in Buenos Aires, to Palais de Tokyo in Paris, and from Madinah Art Center and Athr Gallery in Saudi Arabia, to Sharjah Film Platform in the UAE, to present and perform human stories. “I Am You” which is the project’s first art performance, took place in Flow Exhibition, bringing together ten artists and fifteen different stories from the project’s collection. AlBanawi weaved this selection of real stories to shape the story of a fictional character, starting from his childhood and ending with him reaching divorce at the age of thirty-four. "A Blink of an Eye" is an audio-visual essay that presents five stories from the project’s collection, weaved together by the screenwriter to address ordinary individuals whose lives have changed in a blink of an eye. "Amours Saoudiennes" is a solo French/Arabic art performance bringing a chandelier of 600 hanging stories to shed light on stories of love and loss, making the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris label AlBanawi the (Sophie Calle of Saudi Arabia) upon the warm reception of her performance.
